How is a thermal printer different from a dot matrix printer?

Click: Time:2023-05-01 17:51:08

Everyone in life often encounters a lot of paper notes, and even friends joked that "there are more tickets than banknotes!" But if you are careful, do you find that it is also a small ticket, but the feeling of getting started is very different, one kind of small ticket is the feeling of ordinary paper, and the other small ticket feels smoother. What's the difference between them? Today I will tell you about two printing methods that are widely used in bill printing.

At present, in addition to daily documents in our daily life, we are also flooded with various bills, from courier documents, to restaurant tickets, shopping tickets and so on. Seemingly the same bills can be achieved by two technologies: thermal printing and pin printing. The aforementioned slippery notes are basically realized by thermal printing. So what are the characteristics of these two printing methods?

Pin printing

Dot printers use a needle in the print head to hit paper and other media to form a font. In use, users can choose multiple-link paper according to their needs. Commonly used multiple-link paper includes 2-link, 3-link, 4-link paper, and 6-link printer paper. Multi-part printing can be done in one shot only with a dot matrix printer.

Needle printing technology is characterized in that the needle hits the medium, and the force of the needle is transmitted to the paper medium through the ribbon, which can print multiple copy paper. Because the needles are slightly different, the printed document is unique and difficult to falsify.

But dot printing also has its disadvantages, which is that printing is slow! Dot printing is slower due to the reciprocating movement of the needle. Secondly, the ribbon of the dot matrix printer needs to be replaced frequently, which is cumbersome to operate and the printing cost is high.

Common applications: invoice printing, ticket printing, etc.

Thermal printing

The thermal printer is equipped with a semiconductor heating element on the print head. The print head prints the required pattern after heating and contacting the thermal printing paper. It is similar to a thermal fax machine. The image is generated by heating and generating a chemical reaction in the film.

Compared with dot printing, thermal printing has the advantage of being fast, because the print head with the same width design as the media to be printed, the paper of the thermal printer can reach the speed of second.

However, thermal printing also has disadvantages. Because thermal paper is greatly affected by ambient temperature, the printed bills have a shorter storage time. The printed bills will fade and blur in about three months and it will be difficult to identify.

Common applications: food and beverage receipt printing, takeaway order printing, shopping receipt printing, etc.

So how to choose between thermal and dot matrix printers?

Many customers know that they need to print receipts, but they don't know how to choose between thermal and dot printers. It's actually simple: look at the demand!

If the receipts you want to print are unique and stored for a long time, then choose a dot matrix printer. If you are more concerned about the printing speed and the printing information does not need to be stored for a long time, you can choose a thermal printer.

小 Tips for Thermal Printing: Quickly Remove Bill Information

You only need to use a lighter to bake for 1 to 2 seconds on the information of the thermal paper. Because the thermal paper will react chemically at high temperature, the burned area will turn black accordingly. This method cannot reverse and restore the corresponding information. , And finally achieve the purpose of completely removing the bill information.

After reading, everyone must have a clear understanding of thermal printing and dot printing. If you want more professional printing, then choose Jiabo printer.
